Metropolitan Crime Commission report released in July, the city recorded 247 major violent crime incidents during the first half of 2026, compared with 816 during the same period in 2022. That represents a 70% decline across homicides, nonfatal shootings, carjackings, and armed robberies.

A recent Fifth District investigation shows why those citywide gains do not answer every security question. On July 17, NOPD announced the arrest of a suspect connected to at least 11 business burglaries reported during the previous three months, involving churches and small neighborhood businesses throughout the district.

For an individual business, security still comes down to the property itself, how it operates, and whether the system in place provides the coverage it needs. At ABC Fire & Burglar Alarm, we help Greater New Orleans businesses evaluate those details before recommending changes to an existing system.

Citywide Statistics Cannot Evaluate Your Property

A retail storefront on a busy corridor has different security needs than a warehouse, office, restaurant, church, or service company with vehicles parked outside overnight. Layout, operating hours, employee access, exterior areas, inventory, and entry points all shape how a commercial system should be designed.

Those conditions can also change as businesses renovate, add entrances, extend operating hours, move equipment, or adjust how employees use the property. Staffing changes can leave monitoring contacts or system users outdated as well, even when the equipment itself has not changed.

Periodically comparing the security system with the way the property operates today can help identify coverage that may no longer fit.

Has your property or operation changed since your security system was installed? Call ABC Fire & Burglar Alarm at 504-889-9795 or request a commercial security consultation to review your existing coverage.

Start With the Alarm System You Already Have

Reviewing commercial security can start with the system already in place, especially when much of the existing equipment may still be compatible and useful.

Our commercial alarm systems can help protect against unauthorized entry while giving owners and managers better awareness of what is happening at the property. Professional monitoring adds another layer of protection when the building is unattended, while connected features can make it easier to check system activity remotely.

When we take over an existing commercial alarm system, we can evaluate the equipment already in place and determine what can continue to be used before recommending any necessary updates.

The way employees use the system can also change over time as different doors become primary entrances, business hours shift, or contact information becomes outdated. Older systems may also limit the remote access or notifications that owners and managers now expect from their security.

Take Another Look at Camera Coverage

Camera coverage that worked well when a system was installed may need another look as the property changes, especially if lighting, equipment placement, or the way exterior areas are used has changed.

We provide commercial security camera systems based on the needs of the individual property, with options for indoor and outdoor coverage, recording, remote viewing, and video monitoring.

Depending on the property, useful camera coverage may extend beyond entrances and exits to parking areas, loading zones, inventory areas, and other exterior approaches. Renovations, new equipment, or changes to lighting can also affect views that once provided the coverage the business expected.

Checking what the cameras capture today can reveal where coverage still works and where an adjustment may be needed.

Security Should Keep Pace With the Business

As a business changes, its security system may need to be adjusted to account for new entrances, different operating hours, expanded space, or other changes that affect coverage.

When we evaluate an existing system, we start with what is already working and look for areas where changes to the property or operation may have created a gap in coverage. In many cases, the answer may be a targeted update, such as repositioning a camera or extending protection to an entry point that was not part of the original system.

That approach can help businesses improve coverage without replacing equipment that still serves a useful purpose.

Commercial Security for Greater New Orleans Businesses

ABC Fire & Burglar Alarm has served businesses throughout the Greater New Orleans area for more than 20 years.

Businesses throughout New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner, Slidell, Covington, Gretna, Chalmette, Hammond, and the surrounding area operate from very different types of properties. Our team starts with the property itself, looking at how the business operates before recommending equipment or changes to the system already in place.

Strong Crime Trends Do Not Replace Property-Level Security

New Orleans’ decline in violent crime is worth recognizing, but business owners still need to know whether the system protecting their own property provides the coverage they expect.

If your alarm or camera system has been in place for years, or the business has changed since installation, we can evaluate what you already have and identify where an update may make sense.

Call ABC Fire & Burglar Alarm at 504-889-9795 or request your commercial security consultation to review your current system and discuss the security needs of your property.
